The American diva is back with “Sunset in the Blue”, a new album celebrating love and her jazz roots.

An American singer, songwriter and composer, Melody Gardot appeared on the jazz scene more than ten years ago. She has already performed more than 20 sold-out concerts at l’Olympia in Paris and several successful tours in France, which have made her a must-see artist.

Revealed in 2008 with “Worrisome Heart” and established as a jazz diva in 2009 with the album “My One and Only Thrill“, Melody like to blend folk, blues, bossa nova, RnB and pop with her vocal jazz. She has put an end to five years of recording silence by unveiling her fifth album “Sunset in the Blue” made before and during lockdown. On this album which celebrates Brazil and jazz, the singer interprets a handful of classics – You Won’t Forget Me which Helen Merrill was the first to sing in 1956, Moon River, I Fall in Love Too Easily – and original compositions. As a bonus we discover a song with Sting, “Little Something”, which combines their distinct voices in a pop-up-tempo track with Latin influences.

For “Sunset in the Blue” released on 23rd October on the label Decca Records, Melody Gardot collaborated with the dream team from “My One and Only Thrill“, i.e. producer Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock), arranger and composer Vince Mendoza (Björk, Robbie Williams, Elvis Costello) and legendary engineer Al Schmitt (Frank Sinatra, Joao Gilberto, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney).

Beforehand, in June 2020 and in the middle of lockdown, Melody recorded a song intitled ‘From Paris with Love’, a track lasting around 5 minutes accompanied by her « impossible orchestra », comprising sixty or so musicians around the world, recruited and recorded by way of social networks during the lockdown.

For this 60th anniversary concert, the musical direction of which has been entrusted to the composer, arranger, pianist and conductor Yvan Cassar, Melody Gardot will perform with the splendid Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, whose fabulous capacity to conjugate tradition and modernity has made them an ensemble at the forefront of the international scene.
